A extended cruise through Australia has been cancelled in the wake of the tragic passing of an older female passenger who was stranded by the ship on a distant tropical isle.

The elderly woman had been trekking on Lizard Island with shipmates from the cruise ship, but parted ways from the excursion for a pause. The ship departed without her and went back later that day after the crew realised the lady was unaccounted for.

An extensive hunt found her remains the subsequent day.

Authorities are investigating the incident, together with police and the official investigator.

Head of the cruise operator stated that travelers and personnel on the ship were notified that the rest of the cruise had been called off due to the "sad loss and earlier mechanical issues".

In a statement, he added that travelers would be given a total repayment, and said the organization was working "to organize the travel back of the travelers via private aircraft".
